91传媒 Saint Mary College’s Career Center recently explained how, when used properly, social media can aid in professional development.
 
At the #GettingSocial event, Kathleen O’Keefe and Heather Fitzsimmons, from the 91传媒’s Career Center, told students how social media has become an integral part of many companies’ hiring process, with many employers checking the public accounts of prospective hires. Fitzsimmons detailed how to capitalize on these checks to stand out from other applicants. Suggestions included staying clear of touchy subjects, such as politics, arguments, and negative commentary on one’s school or place of work, as well as tips on how to build a professional online presence, showcasing the qualities that employers are looking for.
