Accounting is the process by which businesses record and organize financial records. If you enjoy working with numbers, spreadsheets, financial records, and yes, math too, then you may enjoy being an accounting major.

Focus on communication: As an accountant, you have to explain financial and mathematical concepts to those who don’t “get it.” At the 91´«Ã½, you’ll learn not only learn the fundamentals of accounting; we'll also teach you how to communicate it to others.
MBA pairing: Save money and time with our 4+1 Year Accounting BS / MBA combo. Learn from professors with years of professional experience in the field while preparing to sit for the CPA exam following graduation to become an accountant.
Sports Management concentration: Specialize your degree further with a concentration in Sports Management, preparing you to focus on accounting practices within sports facilities.

What to expect as an Accounting major

33 credits in Accounting | 45 credits in related fields | Maintain 2.85+ GPA (for MBA track)

As an Accounting major, you'll take a variety of courses aimed at helping you evaluate an organization's financial records and accounting practices as well as gain a thorough understanding of auditing and taxation. You'll begin with basic instruction in accounting principles and then branch out to elective interests like Not for Profit Accounting, Fraud Examination & Forensic Accounting, Accounting/Managerial Decision and Control, and more.

Tax Aide Program

You want to make a difference, but accounting isnâ€™t exactly the first thing you think of when it comes to helping professions. At the 91´«Ã½, many of our Accounting majors use their skills to help those in need during tax season through the TaxAide program. Students are trained by IRS professionals and then volunteer as tax preparers for the elderly and poor.

Be prepared for your future

What can you do with an accounting degree? Obviously, studying accounting prepares you to be an accountant, but there are multiple sectors Accounting majors are prepared to enter:

Public accounting - either working at a CPA firm or providing tax returns or audits/consulting within an agency, including government and corporations
Forensic accounting - fraud prevention and presenting accounting information in court
Sustainability accounting - evaluating an organization’s sustainability in terms of environmental and capital responsibility
